LAPT Main Event Final Table

Georgios “GeoManousos” Sotiropoulos, 25, Rhodes, Greece, now living in Vienna, 3,975,000
EPT10 Prague runner-up Georgios Sotiropoulos is leading a stacked final ten going in to the last day of the LAPT Bahamas Main Event with 3,975,000. Guaranteed at least $18,900, it’s certainly a nice start to 2016 and follows a tremendous 2015 in which the 25-year-old Greek achieved several lifetime goals. This included winning the PokerStars.com Sunday Million in February for $211,024 and securing his first WSOP bracelet - in Berlin in October - for €112,133. His best live result however remains his runner-up finish (to Julian Track) at the EPT Prague Main Event in Season 10 for €700,000.

Sotiropoulos was just 14 when he first started playing poker in home games with friends. He now competes in all the major online MTT events on PokerStars. As well as his Sunday Million victory, online results include winning the Super Tuesday in October 2014 for $120,960 and a Sunday Warm up cash for $148,000. He also has numerous big cashes on the live circuit as well, including EPT7 Sanremo (33rd for €20,000), EPT7 Copenhagen (43rd for DKr 65,000), runner-up in the EPT10 Grand Final €5k NL Turbo for €61,050 and 25th in the €25k High Roller in Monaco last year for €51,600. On facebook, Sotiropoulos lists his job as “living life to the fullest: and the $1.6 million he has already accrued in live winnings certainly won’t hinder that amibition.  Sotiropoulos hails Rhodes in Greece but, like several other poker-playing Greeks, has relocated to Vienna in Austria.

Andre Akkari, 41, Brazil, Team PokerStars Pro -1,275,000
Born in Sao Paulo, Team PokerStars Pro André Akkari is not only one of the best poker players in Brazil (currently ranked #3 in the country’s all time money list), but he is also widely acknowledged as one of the sport’s leading ambassadors there. Only two days ago, Akkari and Friend of PokerStars Felipe “Mojave” Ramos hosted a PCA “Breakfast with the Pros” session, talking about the massive poker boom in their home country - a boom for which Akkari can certainly take considerable credit.

Akkari, a close friends of both Ronaldo and Cristiano Ronaldo, first took up poker while designing an e-commerce proposal for a poker website. He became fascinated by the game and was soon playing for real money on PokerStars. His online results now total more than $3.2 million including a runner-up finish in the WCOOP $10k HORSE event. His first big results on the live scene came nearly ten years ago when he made two Bellagio Cup final tables. Numerous cashes followed including 97th at the 2008 PCA for $16,000, runner-up in an EPT4 Grand Final event for €7,400 and 27th in the WSOP-E Main Event in London in 2009 for £25,918. Akkari also cashed in an EPT4 Grand Final €500 event for €47,400 and was 27th in the WSOP-E Main Event in London in 2009 for £25,918.

Akkari’s biggest score to date was in 2011 when he won his first WSOP bracelet  - and $676,117 - in the $1,500 NL event. Akkari has been an EPT, LAPT and BSOP stalwart for years and has big cashes on all three tours. His best result at a PokerStars event was at the PCA last year when was 16th in the $25k High Roller for $79,400; he was also fifth at the 2013 LAPT Sao Paulo Main Event for R$128,900.  Last May, the married father-of-two finished 23rd at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final
for Û40,050; he then headed to Vegas where he achieved an astonishing six World Series cashes including a final table in the $2,500 NL event (eighth for $50,658).

Joe Kuether, 27, Wisconsin, USA- 2,530,000
American pro Joe Kuether is undoubtedly one of the most experienced players to reach the final of the LAPT Bahamas event. Whatever happens today, the $18,900 he’s already guaranteed for making the final ten will take him close to the $5 million mark in live tournament winnings. Nearly $500k of his winnings came last Autumn when he was third in the WPT Borgata Main Event in September and runner-up in a WSOP circuit event in October but his best live result remains the $1,050,000 he pocketed for his runner-up finish in last year’s PCA $25k High Roller.  The Wisconsin native is a PCA regular and won the 2014 $5k event for $136,250.

Darren Elias, 29, USA - 2,040,000
Darren Elias might not be that well-known to European audiences but he is huge online – with winnings of more than $3.6 million. He has also notched up more than $3.3 million in live tournament winnings, with most of that coming in WSOP and WPT events. He has also cashed on the PokerStars’ North American Poker Tour, the EPT and at the PCA. In 2011, he was third in the PCA $10k High Roller for $98,940 and fifth in a $5k event for $77,235. Three years ago he had a deep run in the Main Event, finishing 13th for $80k; last year he was 29th in the $25k High Roller for $50,360. He has also competed on the European Poker Tour and was 75th at EPT10 Prague for €11,100. Online Elias picked up his first six-figure score in 2009 when he won his first FTOPS event for $126,544. He continued to win online and, in 2010, finished sixth in WCOOP main event for $396,987 and final tabled the PokerStars Sunday Million for another $114,570. According to an interview with CardPlayer in 2014, Elias learned to play cards with his family, then cut his teeth playing online while in college. He said: “I didn’t really take it seriously until I started playing online. I didn’t have much of a bankroll, but then I won the $11 rebuy on PokerStars for about $15,000. After that, everything just snowballed. I wasn’t old enough to play in Las Vegas yet, so I would win satellites online to travel to Europe or Australia and play in some of the bigger buy-in tournaments over there.” Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Elias moved around often as a child because his father was a college football coach.

Chad Eveslage, 24, Indiana, USA – 1,685,000
Eveslage is another successful American player in the LAPT Bahamas final ten. He has competed in three PCA Main Events to date, and cashed in all of them. His 103rd place for $23,500 in the 2011 Main Event was his first ever live recorded cash. A year later, he was 101st for $20k and last year he was 117th for $17,800. Most of Eveslage’s live results – which amount to more than $600k in winnings - have come from WSOP and WPT circuit events.

Knut Karnapp, 31, Germany  - 1,345,000
The German Knut Karnapp comes to today's final table in the middle of the pack, chip-wise. He's the exception to the rule at this final table, not bringing a long list of live tournament successes like the others. But with more than $300K up top for the winner, a win today could lead off such a poker résumé in grand fashion.

Luc Greenwood, 27, Toronto, Canada – 1,175,000
Canadian Luc Greenwood of Toronto has more than $320,000 in live tournament winnings, with his best live cash being for $75,000 right here in the Bahamas when he took 21st in the 2010 PCA Main Event. Greenwood, his twin brother Sam and older Max are all well-known regulars at PokerStars live events and Luc’s resume includes several cashes on the European Poker Tour as well as the WSOP and other tours as well.

Taylor Von Kriegenbergh, 27, Stoneham, Massachusetts, USA   - 1,020,000
With more than $1.8 million in tournament earnings, Taylor Von Kriegenbergh of Massachussets may be returning to one of the short stacks today, but he's got one of the longer lists of previous successes including many deep runs and a couple of wins. His career highlight prior to this week was winning the $10,000 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in 2011 where he topped a 433-entry field to earn a handsome $1,122,340 payday.

Ismael Bojang, 27, Germany - 710,000
German pro Ismael Bojang is another familiar face from the EPT and has earned more than $1.8 million in tournaments over the years while showing a proficiency in many different games besides No Limit Hold'em. Bojang has a couple of EPT side event titles to his credit, including one in a €10,300 PLO event at EPT9 Deauville. His largest career cashes came at final tables during last summer's WSOP where he finished third in the $10,000 2-7 Triple Draw event (for $130,851) and sixth in the $25,000 PLO High Roller (for $187,571).

Will Molson, 28, Montreal, Quebec, Canada - 1,350,000
The Canadian Will Molson is another of our final 10 who has done well at the Atlantis before, having won the $25,500 High Roller Event at the 2011 PCA for a career-best $1,072,850 cash -- a score is roughly half of the almost $2.1 million Molson has earned in tournaments throughout his career.

Those who remember that finish probably remember Molson had taken runner-up in the same $25,500 High Roller the year before at the 2010 PCA (for $322,075). The player from Montreal also has made numerous deep runs in EPT events, including winning a silver spade in a side event at EPT8 Campione.
